Attorney Geraldine E. Stewart became associated with the firm in 2018, as “Of Counsel”. Currently, she is practicing in the field of estate and trust administration, and estate planning. She has previously taught Business Law at Northern Vermont University, Johnson campus. She also is a licensed Vermont Certified Public Accountant.
Gerry grew up in Massachusetts. She earned her B.S. from Merrimack College in 1985 and served as Vice President of her graduating class. Following graduation, Gerry worked at a CPA firm in Woburn, Massachusetts, and earned her Massachusetts CPA license in 1989. Pursing her youth passion to become an attorney, Gerry attended Vermont Law School and graduated in 1992. While at Vermont Law School, Gerry served two years as a member of the Vermont Law Review and held the position as Editor-in-Chief of the Vermont Law Review in 1991-1992.
After graduation, Gerry practiced estate planning and business law for a South Burlington attorney for almost 5 years. As an attorney for this firm, she achieved an unequivocal answer from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Head of the Children’s Bureau that children in the care of a private adoption agency are eligible for the adoption subsidy program after a final decree of adoption. This determination clarified eligibility and the purpose of the title IV-E adoption assistance program for children with special needs. A discussion of these efforts is referenced in Laws, Rita, and O’Hanlon, Tim. Adoption and Financial Assistance, Westport, CT: Bergin & Garvey, 1999. 141-142.
Gerry transitioned to serving as the Controller of the Visiting Nurse Association in 1997. She began her own legal practice during 1998-2000, until deciding to be a full-time Mom. In 2007, Gerry joined a Burlington law firm, which focused on estate planning and elder law, and she practiced with this firm part-time for over 9 years.
Gerry lives in Essex Junction with her husband and three children, and enjoys hiking, biking, running, and attending church, with her family.
